WHAT IS SNAP?

  • The federal program that replaced the Food Stamp Program.  SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.  SNAP dollars can only buy food or food producing plants.

HOW WILL MY CONTRIBUTION MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

  • Over 14,000 individuals in the Harrisonburg community are eligible for SNAP benefits and over 8,000 of those are considered food insecure -- not knowing where their next meal will come from.

  • With the Harrisonburg Farmers Market’s Double Value Incentive Program, SNAP participants are able to maximize the value of their SNAP benefits and buy up to $20.00 more in fresh healthy produce per week to better feed their families.

  • Those funds also indirectly support our local farmers, the local economy and the overall health of the Community.

WHERE WILL MY MONEY ACTUALLY GO?

  • 100% of your money will go directly into the SNAP Double Value Matching Fund at the Market.  These funds support SNAP families and individuals in our community and indirectly support our farmer vendors and the local economy.  The Matching funds can only be used for fresh fruits and vegetables.

HOW DOES THE DOUBLE VALUE MATCHING PROGRAM WORK?

  • When a SNAP customer takes money from their account to spend at the Market, we can match their amount up to $20.00.  The matching funds are designated as such and can ONLY be used for fresh fruits and vegetables.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT  - IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE!
